FORENSIC ASSESSMENT INTERVIEW TECHNIQUE

This interview process is conducted to assess the truthfulness regarding specific incidents and is widely used in the early stages of an investigation in order to eliminate suspects and to scope the focus of the investigation. The FAINT technique is used in conjunction with the Weighted Scoring System which increases the accuracy in determining deception and truthfulness. During the interview, various techniques are used, which includes focusing on body language, micro expressions, adaptors, illustrators and emblems.

STATEMENT CREDIBILITY ANALYSIS (SCAN)

This investigation technique is widely used by police, forensic psychologists and interrogators to determine the truthfulness of a written statement. With this analysis, a written statement can be analysed and dissected to determine whether the author is telling the truth or whether it is a fabrication of the mind. It follows a two step process wherein truthful statements will have specific features called the norm which must first be identified. The second step is then for the analyst to find the deviation from the norm. Any statement written by a truthful author differs from fabricated statements in both quality and content.
